UK Government Donates 85 Tablets to Guyana to Strengthen Forest Monitoring

Georgetown, Guyana — December 02, 2025

The the United Kingdom, through the European Forest Institute Technical Assistance Project, donated 85 tablet devices along with accessories to the Guyana Forestry Commission (GFC) to support Guyana’s ongoing efforts of digitising its wood tracking system to strengthen forest monitoring and sustainable forest management

The devices will enhance the GFC’s ability to collect, analyse, and report real-time data from the field, improving accuracy in forest monitoring activities, and verification processes, including detecting and monitoring forests fires.

This contribution forms part of the UK’s continued partnership with Guyana through shared commitments under the Guyana – European Forest Law, Governance and Trade Agreement.

Speaking at the handover, H.E. Jane Miller, British High Commissioner to Guyana, reaffirmed the country’s support for Guyana’s leadership in global forest conservation. The Commissioner of Forests of the Guyana Forestry Commission, Edward Goberdhan expressed gratitude for the donation, noting that the upgraded technology will significantly boost the efficiency of its national forest monitoring system. Goberdhan further stated that the Digital Wood Tracking System will come on stream in 2026 and it will support President’s Ali vision of rapid digitization of services.

This initiative underscores the strong and growing collaboration between the UK and Guyana in environmental stewardship and sustainable development.
